Zika virus continues to circulate and remains a significant concern in the Americas.  Over the past year, multiple different nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) have been developed to detect Zika virus RNA, and these assays can be categorized as either blood donor screening tests for use in blood donation centers or as diagnostic assays for use in clinical virology laboratories.

 

A recent, international, multicenter study evaluated the analytical sensitivity of Zika virus NAATs for blood donor screening compared to those designed for diagnostic purposes.
