With continued automation in the clinical virology laboratory, laboratory artisans are looking for the next assay to develop with clinical impact.  Next-generation sequencing offers such a hope with a number of new applications in diagnosis, epidemiology, resistance testing, and laboratory quality control. That said, it also has a number of challenges, such as informatics, cost, and turn-around time. This webinar will explore some of the applications for next-generation sequencing in the clinical virology laboratory going on in labs around the world today.

Upon completion of the webinar, the participant should be able to:

  • Identify the types of next-generation sequencing.

  • Describe the applications of next-generation sequencing in clinical virology.

  • Discuss the challenges to working with next-generation sequencing data.
