Webinar Description

Barbara Van Der Pol, PhD, MPH

University of Alabama School of Medicine, Birmingham, AL

This webinar will focus on the changing epidemiology of non-viral STIs including chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, mycoplasma and syphilis.  Challenges with control and treatment will be described in order to contextualize the current developments and remaining gaps in diagnostic capacity. Issues related to clinical utility and appropriate implementation of non-traditional diagnostics will also be discussed.

Upon completion of the webinar, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the changes in disease rates, including rates of emerging infections such as mycoplasma, in general and among special populations

  • Assess the impact of antimicrobial resistance and the impact of targeted treatment based on diagnostic profiles

  • Discuss the implications of evolving diagnostic technologies and their application in non-traditional settings
