Travel Awards

Overview

PASCV provides awards to students, fellows and technologists who have abstracts accepted to ASM's Clinical Virology Symposium, showing excellence in the field of clinical virology. PASCV will present these awards during the Molecular Virology Workshop. The award consists of a prize of $2000, a plaque, and complimentary registration to the Molecular Virology Workshop.

 

Submission Criteria

Submissions must include a:

  • Travel Award application form

  • Copy of abstract submitted to the Clinical Virology Symposium

  • Eligibility letter from supervisor, that must include

  • the name of the person who is competing for the travel award

  • confirmation that the applicant is a student/fellow/technologist

  • the title of the abstract

  • a statement that the work described in the abstract was performed substantially by the applicant, or describing the applicant’s contribution to the work


Applicant must be:

  • Able to attend the Molecular Virology Workshop

  • The presenting author of the submitted abstract referred to by the supervisor in the letter which must be accepted for presentation at the Clinical Virology Symposium

  • Be a student, fellow, or technologist 


Please Note: Previous recipients are ineligible to receive a travel award for 3 years following receipt of a previous ASM or PASCV travel award.


Abstract Requirements
Abstract must have a complete structure including all the following components:


  • Introduction/background

  • Methods/study design

  • Results

  • Discussion/conclusions


Submitted abstracts with incomplete structure are ineligible for an award. Abstracts that are promotional in nature are considered ineligible for an award. 


Scoring Criteria

  • Importance/relevance of scientific problem being addressed           

  • Appropriateness/innovation of study design and/or methodology

  • Quality of results

  • Thoughtfulness and scope of conclusions

  • Overall significance of contribution to the field of clinical virology
